MY PASSION
Hi! Welcome to Fueling with Real Food! I’m Misty, a marketing and sales girl with a master’s who decided to take a leap and turn my passions into a career. Today, I own and run a gym and studio alongside my husband, Paul. I’m a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and nutrition coach. I love what I do and love getting to share it with others. Fitness and nutrition have changed my life, and for the past five years, I’ve been sharing my journey. I’m excited to be here spreading good vibes and sharing more about health and happiness!

MY DIET & RECIPES
For 20+ years I was a professional dieter, and I was good at it! In 2010, I decided to go vegetarian. About a year later, I went all in on a 100% plant-based diet. I loved it and highly respect those committed to the lifestyle. Between 2010 and 2016, I moved between a vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian diet. During those years, I was digging deep to discover who I was as a person, as well as the diet that worked for me and my lifestyle. I love food, and the only way to find complete happiness around it, is learning how to eat intuitively. In order to eat intuitively, you must kick the diets to the curb…forever!!!
Today, I focus on yummy, colorful real food. I don’t deprive myself of anything or consider myself to be on any specific diet. I am still meat and poultry free, and it’s a rare occasion that I consume dairy. What my diet mainly consists of is what you’ll find in my recipes: vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, some grains, eggs, fish, and seafood. I love healthy fats, spices, and herbs. I believe in all things lemon, avocado, and coconut! I trust real food that comes from mother nature, and if it must have a label, I believe in reading the ingredient list – without fail!
MY FITNESS
As a basketball player in high school and college, I grew up an athlete, and up until three years ago, my fitness and running habits would come and go. Today, fitness is my lifestyle. My favorite workouts are high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and strength training; it’s no coincidence that that’s what you’ll find me teaching in the gym. While I love working out, my passion is for running. I especially love race days, finish lines, t-shirts, and medals! I love the running community, the energy, pushing myself, and being my own competition. Most of all, I love sharing it all with my boyfriend, Paul. He owns his own race management company, Pirate Perry Events, and I’m lucky to be able to work alongside him.

MY KITCHEN
I’ve made it my mission to make a career out of the things I love: working out, talking about nutrition, and cooking real food to enjoy with family and friends.
I didn’t grow up cooking, so I was a late bloomer when it came to knowing my way around a kitchen and a grocery store. Once I decided to take control of my mental health, I started studying nutrition, supplementation, and the gut-brain connection. I learned how misleading some of the food industry’s marketing is and how toxic “food-like substances” are on our overall physical and mental well-being. It was then that cooking became more important than convenience, and like everything else, I’ve turned my passion into “my work.”
I believe in finding easy and delicious ways to fuel our bodies the right way and love nothing more than sharing new finds with friends and family. The recipes you’ll find here are the foods we enjoy at home and are free of dairy, soy, meat, and poultry, and the majority are gluten-free. As endurance athletes, rest assured I’ll be sharing several ways to fuel for those long training and race days.
MY SPARE TIME
When I’m not cooking, working out, coaching, training, or running, I love spending time with my boyfriend Paul, fur babies, friends, family, and I’ll be honest, vegging out on the couch with whatever Netflix series I’m addicted to at the moment! I believe we should laugh every chance we get, follow our hearts, live for today, control the controllables, and always maintain perspective! I’m appreciative to my circle of people who have been supportive throughout my entire journey and my fur babies for being right by my side for the entire ride.
